May 7 Devotional

I keep hearing people say that “on the other side of this time, there will be a new normal.”

I know what they are saying is true. I know this pandemic has changed things and that on the other side there will be a new normal. BUT I will confess that the little girl in me wants to stomp her foot, pout and whine about how much I liked how things were before and how much I want them back!

But then I remember God’s history with us, and I remember the countless times His people were in the midst of seasons that changed their normal, and they had new normal. Over and over, throughout the generations, there have been countless times when God’s people faced seasons of life that brought about a new normal. What was consistent, over and over, was how God was present with His people as they navigated the new normal.

I am also reminded that God uses everything. The good, the hard and everything in between.

The Apostle Paul said it this way in Romans 8:28, “We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.”

I believe that. Do you?

He said ALL THINGS — not just some things, not just the good things, but ALL things — and I think that even includes this!

Since we know that is true — then we can also know some of that good can come in the:

  •  The time we have spent with those we love
  • The slower pace many have experienced
  • Our gratitude for all the things that fill our lives, even though we have had to take a break from them
  • And it can also be the new normal

We know God is with us, leading us, guiding us and laying the path ahead. We can trust that whatever the new normal is, He is going to be with us as we navigate it, and good will come.
