Encouraging Savior of the World

The Christmas season is full of hope and encouragement. The annual remembrance of Christ's holy and humble birth is clear evidence that God Almighty refuses to give up on us. Christ has come down from heaven to live among us. The Lord of all the universe has become our brother in the fray. He eats and drinks with us. He teaches us.  He brings healing words and a healing touch to us. He steps in our path insisting that we turn abruptly around to begin a new journey. He prays for us and with us. He guides us into a trustful and obedient relationship with our Father in heaven. He pushes aside every form of hypocrisy and all religious gamesmanship. He shows us that love is the royal way and that compassion is the golden currency of true religion. He gives us a cross to bear refusing to let us trifle away our lives. He satisfies us like water does the thirsty without measure and feeds us with bread baked fresh in heavens oven. He expects faith from us. He expects endurance from us. He offers mercy and forgiveness when we let him down. He renews us. The world can be a discouraging place. We follow the encouraging Savior of the world who, in fact, has the power and the will to change us and the world we call home. Christmas trees go to the curb, but our God lives forever. The peaceful Kingdom is Christ's goal and he will achieve his goal. "The wolf shall live with the lamb...The cow and the bear shall graze...for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea." (Isaiah 11) You can bet on it!
