Daily Dose, Oct. 19 — Go Time

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:1-3)   We ate our meals in the kitchen in my growing up days in Chamblee, Georgia. My place at the table was next to my brother, Sambo, facing the window. My sister, Sallie, was across the table with Mom to the right and Dad to the left. It was a good place to enjoy our meals. I have a very nice, leather Lay-Z-Boy recliner at our home in Fairfax. I love that chair and love that place we call home. Jesus painted a very clear and simple picture for us when he addressed the subject of eternity. He said that we would be in our Father’s house. He said that it would be a place with many rooms for all our brothers and sisters. He even said that he was ready to go and prepare a place for us in that house. There are other images of heaven in the Bible that inspire me. Streets of gold and jeweled walls, with gates wide open to welcome everyone who ever loved God and lived by faith. A new heaven and a new earth coming down out of heaven from God, as stunning in beauty as a bride walking the center aisle of the sanctuary. But all the comfort I need is found in Jesus’ simple use of the word “place.” -- Y’all come, Dr. Don
