Daily Dose, May 7 — Roots & Wings

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.”

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” (John 14:1-7)

Our son Taylor recently announced his engagement to his sweetheart Ali. We are thrilled and already looking forward to the October wedding. I will be allowed to give a toast in honor of the bride and groom. I get a frog in my throat and a tear in my eye just imagining the moment. I am proud of both of them and beyond happy for them. Offering a word of encouragement and blessing is easy. I’m sure that I will conclude whatever remarks I make with the same words I said when Aaron and Victoria married a year ago: “May there always be a Bible in your hand, a pew under your bottom and Christ in your heart.”

The temptation is to think we can have Christ without the pew and the Bible. I guess it’s possible, but I’ve never seen it happen.

A key role in parenting is to lead our children into a way of living that leads to success and happiness. A life of devotion to God leads to prosperity, both material and spiritual. So bring the children and teenagers with you to church and help them to value the truth God revealed to Israel and the church. You will be showing them the way to the Savior who is himself the way. — Y’all come, Dr. Don
