Daily Dose, May 22 — Psalms of Ascent

Have you ever done one of those trust tests? You know, when you turn your back to a small group of people and you fall back, trusting they will catch you when you fall. How confident you feel about falling and trusting one of them to literally “have your back” really depends on who’s in the group, how well you know them, how trustworthy you have found them to be. “Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.” (Psalm 125:1) To be unshakable is a mighty thing! In a world that seems uncertain, when there is so much in life that we can’t foresee or control, to be able to be unshakeable, to have the strength of a mountain would be a really good thing! The strength, the unshakeable nature comes from where we place our trust. If our trust is in our strength, our power, our abilities, or in our confidence in the world and the things of the world, our trust is in things that are imperfect, flawed and shakable. If our trust is in the Lord, the Eternal One, then we have placed our feet upon a mighty unshakable mountain, and we can be as certain as the psalmist.   There is peace and calm assurance when you truly believe you are in the care of God. Then no matter what this life brings, in the good times and in the hard times, you are able to remain in calm assurance that the creator of the heaven and the earth, the creator of you -- is with you. He is for you, and He loves you! That is what we all can trust! -- Rev. Terri Henkel
