Daily Dose, May 14 — Acts of the Apostles

So when they had come together, they asked him, ‘Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?’ He replied, ‘It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’ When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. While he was going and they were gazing up towards heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up towards heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.’(Acts 1:6-11)

“Don’t talk the talk if you can’t walk the walk.”, is a saying I heard early on in my Christian journey.  It does make sense.  We need to live a devoted Christian life if we are going to invite others into the Christian circle.  Integrity is required in every arena of living.  But we can carry this truth too far.  Somebody has got to talk the talk, or the message of Christ never gets off the runway.  Jesus did not expect the disciples or us to reach perfection in love before we say a good word about Christ and the church.  We are in the message business.  Go share your experience of God’s Presence and Power in your life.  Go share what you have learned from our Lord Jesus.  Go share what life in the church means to you.  The Holy Spirit nudges us to speak up for Christ and all things sacred and holy.  Silence is not an option for Spirit led Christians.  Go and be my witnesses everywhere you make footprints said Jesus to the apostles.  The command applies to us too.  You don’t need to get up in anybody’s grill.  Just be yourself and invite people to worship God with you.  The church and our worship service is the evangelist.  You are the invitation to the party. Y'all come, --Dr. Don Martin
