When was the longest you went without food? A couple of hours, since you went to bed last night? Ever tried to fast for a whole day? When was the longest time you went without technology?  A couple hours, since you went to bed last night? Ever tried to fast technology for a whole day? When was the longest you went without criticizing anyone or anything?  A couple of hours, since you went to bed last night? Ever tried to fast criticism a whole day? When we the last time you purposefully sacrificed something for the purpose of drawing closer to God? People of faith have embraced the spiritual disciple of fasting throughout the ages. It has always been understood and experienced as a way to draw closer to the heart of God. Jesus said, “And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:16-18) This lent will you consider fasting?  For some the fast may be food, or a specific type of food, maybe God has called you to “fast” something non-food.  Whatever the sacrifice you make, know He sees and “your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”  --Rev.
