Daily Dose, June 11 — Summertime Fun

Do you remember back when you were a kid and summer time was coming? We would count down the days ‘til we could sleep in late, play outside for hours and enjoy all the fun summer brought. Every year, we would look forward to sunny days filled with laughter and fun, and we, often, didn’t have a care in the world. To be that carefree seems like a thing that disappears as our years in childhood pass away. When my kids were younger, they used to say that they couldn’t wait to be a grownup. Grownup life seemed so much more fun to them. My kids are all grownups now, and how they wish they could be kids again! Grownup life definitely is great, but it also brings a pile of cares and worries. And, too often, we become so weighed down and burdened by the weight of responsibilities and troubles that we lose sight of how to be carefree, how to lay the burdens down and enjoy our life. Jesus said, “…do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?” (Matthew 6:25-26) Essentially, Jesus is telling us to chill out! Don’t worry so much; don’t strive so hard. TRUST GOD. He loves you! You are His child! This summer, spend some time carefree. The days are longer, the skies are brighter, and we look out the window and want to go out and play awhile. Let’s shut off our laptops, I- pads and cell phones. Let’s set aside work, chores and our to-do lists. They will all be there when we come back in. For a while, go out and be carefree, knowing that your heavenly Father has you in the palm of His hand! -- Rev. Terri Henkel
