Daily Dose, June 1 — Take Me to the Water

“Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple — truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.” (Matthew 10:40-42)

Mother Theresa lived her life among the poorest people in India. She tended to their basic needs and shared Christ’s love with them. People traveled the world to meet her, asking her advice about a life that matters. She challenged people to focus on the little things, without trying to change the world with one grand moment.

“Smile at each other; smile at your wife, smile at your husband, smile at your children and the many people you meet during the day. Just smile.”

Give it a try. The look on your face and the attitude you carry through the day affects people. Little things are noticed by God in heaven, said Jesus. Even a cup of cold water given to a child, because you are a Christian, has a reward.

We live in a world that loves the spectacular, walk-off home run to win the game. But here in the real world, it’s a smile, a hand-written note, a word of encouragement and a simple act of kindness that pleases God. — Y’all come, Dr. Don
