“Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.” -- Romans 6:8-14 I had just arrived in Atlanta, as the new operations director. With this inevitably came many employees seeking me to air their past grievances. I did my best to listen to each one and respond appropriately. Some had merit; many did not. So when a woman appeared at my door, I immediately assumed that was her intent . . . I managed a smile, and introduced myself, and she to me. Carol had a big smile, and her head was covered by a babushka. Curiously, she said that she wanted to meet me and ask if there was anything she could do to help with my transition, because she wanted me to succeed in my new role. Wow . . . I didn’t see that coming. Later, I learned that Carol was indeed special. She was known for having the biggest heart in the whole company; always asking to serve, always encouraging, always a perfect friend, even to those she barely knew. And I learned that Carol wore a babushka because her hair had fallen out, as she was fighting a second round of breast cancer. was blessed to get to know her a bit over the next 18 months. She had a family, many friends, and never ever complained, but always was pouring into others. I have met very few like Carol in over 30 years of work. Her body ultimately lost to cancer. I am certain though, that the Spirit of her Lord never left her, and it shined through to her last breath. Though she suffered, the Glory of God was revealed through her. God offers eternal life through His Son, Christ Jesus. And it is available right now. Jeff Broka
