Daily Dose, Journey to the Spirit — April 28

Jesus answered them, “Beware that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah!’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” Matthew 24:4-14     Daily Dose: Journey to the Holy Spirit   These verses are not the usual ones that we see featured in children’s Bibles. They don’t exactly bring to mind idyllic scenes of a caring shepherd and gentle sheep. Jesus knew -- and he told us -- that there will be much trouble in this world. And he gave us a key instruction: “See that you are not alarmed.” I sometimes refer to this as having an “eternal perspective.” When we have our hearts and souls focused beyond what we can see, it gives us an ability to not be alarmed….to fear not. This world, ultimately, is not your home. Do we even bother to work toward healing, peace and restoration? Certainly! These words don’t give us license to relax. Our good works generated by love and kindness should continue until we breathe our last breath. Rev. Brad Greene
