Daily Dose, Journey to the Holy Spirit — May 30

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. John 14:26     Daily Dose: Journey to the Holy Spirit   Jesus says the Holy Spirit will teach us. The Holy Spirit won’t just teach a few random things; the Holy Spirit will teach us “everything.” Wow! Were you blessed at some point with having a really great teacher? One who could make the lessons come alive? One who was so gifted they could have taught the phone book and made it interesting? For me, there were times when I didn’t even realize that I was learning because of the teacher’s gifts and engagement. The Holy Spirit is the ultimate master teacher. The Spirit is teaching all the time, and the Spirit’s aim is to teach us EVERYTHING. I can’t help but realize: To receive the lesson from the gifted teacher, I had to be present in class. Otherwise, my lack of learning couldn’t ever be blamed on the teacher. Jesus says the Holy Spirit will remind us. The Holy Spirit will point us back to all that Jesus said. Because Jesus’ words are pure and true, the “reminder” that comes from the Holy Spirit isn’t like a nag. As we become more and more familiar with Jesus’ life and teaching -- as we imprint them on our minds and hearts -- it is the work of the Holy Spirit to bring those things to bear on our life situations. When we think our act of kindness is insignificant, it is the Holy Spirit who whispers his words to us: “As you have done it to the least of these, you have done it to me.” In a different way, when we are tempted to stray and follow our own desires, the Holy Spirit may whisper something different: “Woe to you.” Rev.
