Daily Dose, Journey to the Holy Spirit — May 29

If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you. John 14:15-17     Daily Dose: Journey to the Holy Spirit   As Jesus walked and talked with his disciples, he knew that a day would come when he would no longer be physically present with them. They would no longer have the benefit of the direct connection to his wisdom and power. And he knew that they would be tempted to stray. He knew that they might lose focus. But Jesus also knew the mind and heart of God the Father. He knew that God was not going to leave them (or us) adrift. Jesus tells them that the Father will send a presence to be with them forever. I trust that you’re aware: Forever extends all the way up to our present! The same Spirit that Jesus promised to his disciples is promised to us. It is the same Spirit who brings truth, and it is the same Spirit that is available to all of us and can abide in us. It’s interesting to notice Jesus’ words at the beginning of this passage: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” Keeping the commandments of Jesus -- loving God and loving others -- creates more fertile ground in our souls in which the Spirit can take root. Do you KNOW the Spirit? Has he taken root in you? Rev. Brad Greene
