Daily Dose, Jan. 3 — New Beginnings Copy

Have you ever heard someone say “God has a plan for your life?” Sometimes, that idea brings a great deal of comfort.  Sometimes, it brings a bit of ambivalence because we tend to have our own plans for our lives. We have a plan for what our future will be like, the kind of person we will marry and the kind of job we will have. Then we have kids and we can even begin to plan their lives, their marriages and their professions. I have even heard some say that “if God is ‘gonna have a plan, sure hope it is just like their plan.”  The reality is that God’s plan for our lives doesn’t always line up with our plans at all. Let me just tell you not once as I was planning out my life, did I ever entertain the notion of being a pastor. That thought never entered my plan. God indeed had a plan for my life and living out His plan has been the great joy of life. He saw where the journey would lead when I had no clue. He knew what I would need when I had no idea. I would have missed out on the greatest blessing had to stuck to my plan and rejected His. The prophet Jeremiah was a spokesman for God and God spoke to His people through him and said, “I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11) When God spoke these words to His people, these words were not a promise of smooth sailing, or a problem free life. God was speaking to the big picture: knowing what only He knows. It is a word of promise, of courage, of strength and assurance. He really does have a plan for our life and He invites us to join in on His plan which sometimes requires us to lay down our own plans. Here is the thing, we can TRUST His plan and trust Him and embrace the journey. --Rev. Terri Henkel
