Daily Dose, Jan. 26 — Promises of God

As our week draws to a close, we look to a promise that stands before us all. It is the promise of all promises -- one that gives us hope and assurance of what lies ahead. “Don’t be troubled. Trust in God. Trust also in me. My Father’s house has room to spare. If that weren’t the case, would I have told you that I’m going to prepare a place for you? When I go to prepare a place for you, I will return and take you to be with me so that where I am you will be too!” (John 14:1-3) Now come on -- is that a promise, or what?! We have a place in our Father’s house; it waits for us. We have a home, the ultimate home, and there is room for us all -- special just for us. Within us is a longing for a sense of home -- a place where we are welcomed, where we can rest and be ourselves. A place where we belong. Jesus is telling us our home lies ahead, and we all have a place there. So often, I hear people fret because they are uncertain what the future holds. They don’t know what lies around the next corner. For some, that can be disconcerting and even frightening. Jesus tells us that we DO, in fact, know what is around that final corner and what our future can hold. We have a place, prepared just for us, and we will be home, surrounded by our brothers and sisters, living under the roof of our Father. That is a promise that can be give us strength, assurance, promise and security. -- Rev. Terri Henkel
