Daily Dose, Feb. 27 — Culture of Invitation

Sometimes our adventures come as quite a surprise, like it did for a lady who simply was busy midday, getting water from a well. She went midday, most likely to miss seeing the other women of the town. She was known as a woman who made bad decisions, and she was probably shunned for those decisions. So she went in the heat of the day to fetch water. While she was there, she met Jesus, and that meeting absolutely changed her life. It wasn’t enough for her that her life had been changed and that she had stepped into a great adventure, she wanted to make sure others knew, too, and so she went straight into town and told them. These were the same people she had tried to avoid that morning when she went for water. Once she experienced the living water, she had to tell others, invite them to come to know what she now knew, experienced what she has experienced. Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I have ever done.” (John 4:39) She couldn’t keep it to herself. She had to share, had to tell, had to invite them to come and know the love of Jesus. When we experience the amazing love of God, are transformed by Christ and made new, we are filled with His Spirit…we can’t keep it to ourselves. We have to tell others. Who will you tell today about the love of God? -- Rev. Terri Henkel
