Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18   Prayer. We all know we should do it, but for many of us it doesn’t come naturally. If we’re being honest, unprompted prayer occurs about as frequently as a solar eclipse, which is why Paul's directive in 1 Thessalonians to "pray without ceasing" can seem so overwhelming. But prayer is essential to spiritual growth. When our Lord went to the Mount of Olives to pray, as was his custom, he told his disciples, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." The disciples fell asleep instead. The next thing that Peter did was try to take on the Roman army with a sword; then he denied Christ. Peter did not pray, and, as a result, he fell into temptation. Prayer might not come naturally to you, but with a little effort, prayer can become second nature. Use your phone to set a reminder to pray each day, or set your alarm 10 minutes earlier to develop the habit of morning prayer. Start today! You can’t live without it. Better yet, start right now! Let me get you started, “Gracious God…” Wes Maston
