Fear of the unknown can be crippling, for some it has caused them to feel as though they can’t move in any direction. It can feel overwhelming and when it takes root, it can seem to take over our lives. It can feel like our minds are like a hamster on a wheel, just goes faster and faster. Our thoughts and fears churn around more and more.
- How will the bills be paid?
- What will the tests results reveal?
- Will I find a job?
- Will my child make it through this?
- What will happen with ____?
The list of things that can consume our thoughts could go on and on.
Regardless of what our “unknown” is, our assurance is the same. Jesus said, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 And even the hairs of your head are all counted. 31 So do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29-31)
God is watching over us. He knows our worries, our burdens, our heartache and our fears. Not only does He know them, he loves us and cares about all that worries us, all that is burdensome to us, all that causes our hearts to hurt. He knows, He loves us, and He is with us throughout it all. We never face uncertainty alone.
A dear friend brought me a gift last week. I mentioned a burden that was weighing on me and that I was praying for someone I was worried about and what the future would hold. Her gift was a bracelet with the Hebrew word בָּטַח batach on one side and on the others side the word was written in English, “TRUST”. I wear it and every time I look at my wrist I remember to TRUST Him. When the mind starts churching like the hamster on the wheel, TRUST. When prayers grow frantic, TRUST. When the future is unknown, TRUST!
He loves us, He cares about our life, we are of more value than the birds and flowers and He cares for them…we can TRUST and rest in Him.
