Daily Dose, April 30 — The Greatest Story

The Greatest Story ever told begins with the opening words in Genesis, and the story begins, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) Everything that is, came into existence by the creative power of Almighty God. Imagine a darkened theatre stage, completely dark until the moment you hear a deep powerful voice say, “Let there be light….” (Genesis 1:3) The lights come on, and in that moment, comes great change. Then the deep, powerful voice says, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water…,” and you see the sky. Next the land is spoken into existence, and you see areas take form; then the land begins to produce vegetation, beautiful plants grow. The deep, powerful voice calls for two great lights to govern the day and the night. He fills the waters with living creatures and fills the sky with birds of the air. He fills the land with living creatures. Each time God speaks, each part of creation into existence, God says, “It is good.” (Genesis 1:25b) The stage has been transformed since the deep powerful voice said, “Let there be light.” Our world has taken shape; it has been filled with plants and animals. But He is not finished, not yet! Everything has built up to this moment, the moment of climax of His creation. “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27) All of creation is unique, special and has a purpose. No other part of creation, not the land and seas, nor the plants or animals, are given the high honor and distinction of being created in the very image of God. Theologians refer to this as the “Imago Dei.” We are all created in the image of Almighty God, and that truth is where the Greatest Story begins…. -- Rev. Terri Henkel
