“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.”

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” (John 14:1-7)

The resurrection of Jesus means you have a place in heaven. This is what Jesus told the anxious disciples as he talked to them about the end of his ministry. “I go to prepare a PLACE for you” is precisely what he told them. I have a place at our family table; I have a place to park my truck in the evening and a place to sleep when the day is done.

We affirm this faith in the Apostle’s Creed when we declare our belief in “the resurrection of the body.” We are going to a place where tables are set with food and friends gathered around who have loved God. We are going to a place of worship, where we sing together in praise of the Lamb that was slain. I hope there is golf. I hope I can throw a baseball with friends. I’m sure it’s a place where God is present as the light is present at noon day, where pain and suffering and sorrow and evil are forever gone.

Resurrection means we are on the long journey home to a place designed and built by God. -- Y’all come, Dr. Don
