Daily Dose, April 15 — Holy Week

Sunday palms branches were being waved all over the world where Jesus’ name is praised. All were remembering the day when Jesus, Son of God entered into Jerusalem. “A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.  The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!” When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, “Who is this?” The crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.” For centuries we have joined voice with those present that day shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!” We are celebrating who He is, knowing this day of celebrating leads us into a week that is filled with pain and suffering for our Lord.  Yet it was of no surprise for Him. He knew as He climbed upon the donkey on that fateful day what the week would hold for Him.  He knew what it meant for humanity. He knew it was the reason He was born. For the moment there are the shouts of Hosanna, but that moment will pass. In a few short days, there will be shouts from a different crowd and they will yell, “Crucify Him.”  He knew it would be so and He climbed upon the donkey anyway. WHY? Why would He set His face towards Jerusalem, towards this moment?  He does it ALL, because of LOVE!  The Apostle Paul explains it this way, “God demonstrates His own love for us in this, and “while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) This week we enter Holy Week and we are remembering what God’s love cost, and how the price that was paid, and who paid it.  How do we respond to such love?  All He asks for is our hearts and our lives. –Rev.
