Advent 2016 – Dec 22

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.  There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. -- John 1:1-9     Christmas is the season of light. Lord knows we need it, because the darkness is pervasive. Violence is constant in the Middle East. The inner cities of our nation feel forgotten and cast aside. Heroin has returned, in force, to trip and destroy young lives. Elephants and donkeys throw words across the aisle. We need a Word that sheds light and gives hope. Christ is that Word, and He is that light we need. His presence changes the temperature in the room and in our hearts. He chases away the darkness around us by addressing the darkness within us. Open your Bible and read anything Jesus said or did, and you will see it is so. Don't judge…. Blessed are the peacemakers.... Forgive as you.... These are just a few that come to mind. The Light is here among us, so let's live in the Christmas light in all seasons.
