Brick Story:

My name is Lindsey. My family and I have been members of the church for as long as I can remember. Alpharetta Methodist prayed for me when I was very ill. Senior Pastor Dr. Don Martin married my husband and me and baptized our children. Alpharetta Methodist is forever engrained in our family, and we now have the opportunity to leave our mark, permanently, on the grounds of the church we hold so dear.

Here is my Brick Story: On February 18, 2015, I delivered my first son, Michael Vincent Contreras, stillborn. He weighed a mere 10 ounces when he was brought into this world as an angel at just 24 weeks. It was one of the most heartbreaking days of my life, one that will never be forgotten. Dr.Martin came to meet Michael at the hospital that night and helped see us through some of our most difficult days. We did not have a funeral or burial for Michael. He was cremated and resides in a small, white lacquer box on the highest shelf in our family room. No one even knows he’s there, except for my husband and me, of course.

Then, not far into the start of 2018, a close friend of ours lost his sister unexpectedly, well before her time, without any warning. As details of the funeral arrangements emerged, my husband and I kept wondering what we could do for our dear friends to honor their loss but wanted something that would stand the test of time. We wanted to do more than send flowers with a note of our condolences. Then, it hit me. A Legacy Brick — an engraved brick to commemorate each of our loved ones on the grounds of the church where so many of life’s other milestones occurred.

I created the Legacy Bricks campaign to give purpose to our family’s loss and to allow other families and friends of Alpharetta Methodist to do the same for their loved ones. We purchased our bricks for Michael and for Rachel. We purchased our bricks to have a permanent way to remember and a physical place to see that.

What will your Legacy Brick be for?
