Our mission is to provide field trip opportunities, park days, special events, club days, parent meetings to keep parents informed on homeschooling news and events, a web page for more information on homeschooling, as well as other opportunities for fun and exciting homeschooling events.
Park Day is the last Friday of the month. We rotate through various parks in the area and have indoor activities like bowling or skating for the winter months.
Club Day is held the first and third Fridays of the month. Students gather for clubs such as newspaper, drama, art, glee and more. The students lead the clubs, while parent volunteers monitor and guide them. There is an additional fee for Club Day.
Special Events or Parties
We hold parties for special times of the year like Christmas, Valentines and Easter. We also have other fun events like a fall festival, family fun day and more for the whole family to enjoy – dads, too!
On the second and fourth Fridays (if there is a fifth Friday of the month) members organize field trips to various places around Georgia. Our field trips have included: the Kangaroo Conservation Center, the Rock Ranch, the governor’s mansion, Cane Creek Farm, Amicalola Falls and more.
Mom’s Night Out
Each month the moms gather to enjoy each other’s company. Locations and days vary so everyone can have a chance to come at some point during the year.
Middle and High School Fun Night
Our group has many middle schoolers and a few high schoolers. The first Friday of the month, they gather in the evening for an activity geared to their age group. Activities include a scavenger hunt, random acts of kindness and “make your own pizza and movie night.” In order to participate, we ask each family with a middle or high schooler participating to agree to coordinate one fun night per year.
Application and Enrollment
Before joining we ask that families attend park day or a field trip. We want you to make sure Homeschoolers of Alpharetta is a good fit for you and your family. Once you decide to join, application for membership is made annually and is valid from August through the end of the following July. In order to be placed on the email loop, you must officially join the group.
Application for membership will be made annually to HA and runs August 1 through July 31.
1. Fill out the application and pay your membership dues. Annual dues are $20.
2. Alpharetta First UMC is a safe sanctuary so all adults working with children on the church campus are required to attend a Child Youth Protection training and complete a background check. Each year you will have to review the requirements for working with the children but will not need a background check after the initial one is complete.
3. Members are required to coordinate two activities each year: a field trip and a party or special event.
