Alpharetta First United Methodist is proud to support our servicemen and women. Read more below about how we celebrate our heroes and what services we provide to support them.
Each summer since 2009, Alpharetta Methodist has collected packages of Oreos and shipped them overseas to U.S. military men and women serving in combat zones. In 2014, the church sent 3.7 tons of the cookies to troops at five forward operating bases in Afghanistan.
Every year on the Sunday prior to the Fourth of July, Alpharetta Methodist pulls out the stops for a great celebration of our country. Our choirs, orchestra and Vinebranch Band fill the sanctuaries with patriotic tunes; we bring our Oreos for Operation Oreo to the altar; and we pay tribute to our military veterans.
Old Soldiers Day Parade
Volunteers from Alpharetta Methodist distribute free bottles of water to the crowds watching the Old Soldier’s Day Parade each August. We believe this is one small service we can provide to help celebrate all of our veterans.
Memorial Day & Veteran’s Day
We celebrate Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day each year during all of our worship services by recognizing service members who were willing to sacrifice for our country.
If you have a family member or friend who is currently serving away from home, consider sending them one of our angels! These angels are handmade by church members and accompanied by a Bible verse. Pick up an angel in the Sanctuary balcony (ask an usher for directions to the Angel Ministry display) or in our Prayer Chapel. And don’t worry, these angels aren’t too frilly! We make special angels for our soldiers overseas with durable fabric that can withstand some wear and tear.
