I was born in Michigan but my parents were from Tennessee. My family moved to north Florida when I was a child and I came to Georgia in 1994. At least I stayed along the same longitudinal lines!
I came to Alpharetta First United Methodist in June of 2007. Before that, I served as pastor of Prospect UMC, Morgan County, and Associate Pastor of Princeton UMC, Athens, Georgia.
My education consists of a Masters of Arts in English from the University of Florida, and I received my Master of Divinity in the year 2000 from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University.
My responsibilities at Alpharetta Methodist include overseeing the hospital and congregational care ministries. I serve as the Liturgist at the traditional service, and preach at least once a month in either the Vinebranch service or the traditional service. I teach Bible studies, and serve as the staff connection to the worship and missions committees. I am married to Ken Parker, and we have kids, James and Susannah. When I am not at the church I enjoy reading, knitting, exercise, and piano. My musical preferences are classical guitar, country gospel, and Modern Skirts.
My favorite Bible verse would have to be Galatians 6:2: Bear one another's burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ.
